BAGO

Bago is situated 80 km east of Yangon. It was once a seaport and capital of Mon kingdom, founded in 825 by two Mon brothers. According to the legend, it was just a small peace of island around 563 BC where the two birds perched, the female bird on the back of the male one. It became today the symbol of this city.

KYEIK HTI YOE

It is one of the most interesting and sacred Pagoda in Myanmar, located on the 1100 m high mountain range, 161 km from Yangon.

A small stupa is built on the gilded boulder 25 m in circumstance which is placed on the very edge of the rock cliff in a very precarious position. According to the legend, the hair relief of the Buddha was enshrined in it. Some believe that the pagoda maintains its balance for years due to the hair relief.

Monywa is a trade town, situated on the eastern bank of Chindwin River, 136 km west of Mandalay. It takes about 3 hours from Mandalay by car.

PWIN OO LWIN

The town is located 67 km (2 hours drive) east of Mandalay on the Shan plateau, 1070 m above sea level. As Colonel May had temporarily stationed in the original Shan village in 1887, it is named as May’ town. It became hill station of British later. The Myanmar government renamed it as Pyin Oo Lwin in 1989.

MT.POPA

Popa in Pali means flower. It is an extinct volcano, 1518 m above sea level, located 50 km South-East of Bagan. It is considered as the abode of 37 Spirits (Nat in Myanmar). Popa Spirit festival is held on full moon day of April. Although Buddhism had been introduced, many Buddhist still believe in Nat (spirit).
